Features And Benefits
Real meat is the number one ingredient in a taste of the wild meaning your dog is getting its protein from the best sources possible. For example, if you choose the venison and bison flavor for your dog, the number one ingredient in the food mix will be venison and bison.
A taste of the wild pride themselves on using real meat rather than cheap, low-quality dairy protein sources that can potentially be an allergen for your pet dog. These high-quality protein sources are perfect to promote the growth of strong, lean, and healthy muscle in your dog as well as help it lead a fit and healthy allergen-free lifestyle.
When it comes to carbohydrate sources, a taste of the wild again chooses to stay away from cheap and low-quality filler carbohydrate sources such as corn, wheat or barley. Instead, they choose to include a number of different fruit and vegetable-based superfoods to offer the very best for your dog without the risk and triggering an allergic reaction.
The included superfoods change slightly flavor to flavor but they usually include foods that are jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to provide the very best nutritional profile possible for your dog.
These fruit and vegetables have been specifically chosen as they are quick and easy to digest in a dog’s digestive system. This helps ensure that your dog is able to absorb all of the vitamins and minerals quickly and efficiently while avoiding any possible digestive upset.
Question – Are any of the ingredients or is any of the food processing sourced from China?
Answer – No, over ninety percent of the ingredients come from the USA with the remainder coming from New Zealand, France, and Belgium. Once all ingredients have been received the food is produced in factories in California, South Carolina, and Missouri.
Question – Is this food really 100% allergen free?
Answer – It is 100% grain, lactose, and soy free that make up the bulk of the allergins for dogs. It is also free of all artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. As we mentioned earlier in the article, a very small number of dogs may have an allergy to the flavor, for example, chicken. If your dog has eaten chicken flavored dog food or chicken table scraps without issue then this will not be a problem for you.
Question – I have another question, how do I get in touch with a taste of the wild?
Answer – You can call them on their dedicated line – 800.342.4808

The Second Best Dog Food For Dogs With Allergies
In our opinion, the second best food for dogs with allergies is the Blue Buffalo Wilderness range. With this particular range of high-quality dog foods, Blue Buffalo has taken inspiration from the diets of wolves in the wild and attempted to mimic it as closely as possible. This helps keep out any potential allergens that may have a negative effect on your dog.
It has grown a large loyal fanbase over the years who feed this to their dogs without issue. You can click here to read some third party independent reviews from these dog owners to read their thoughts on this product.
Features And Benefits
Similar to the taste of the wild dog food above, the Blue Buffalo Wilderness food mix also contains real meat as its number one ingredient. For example, the chicken flavor pictured above contains chicken as its main ingredient.
Using real meat instead of cheap dairy substitutes in the food mix removes any chance of lactose being present. If your dog has an allergy to dairy or is lactose intolerant then this removed the chance of any adverse reactions to the food.
Again, rather than packing the food mix out with low-quality cheap grains, Blue Buffalo has chosen to use high-quality fruits and vegetables as their food mix’ carbohydrate sources. This ensures that your dog has a high-quality, slow releasing energy source to keep it going throughout the day. As this energy comes from fruits and veggies, it removes any chance of a reaction to gluten as gluten intolerance is a relatively common allergy in dogs.
The food mix also includes LifeSource Bits, a creation of Blue Buffaloes to help cram in as many vitamins and minerals as possible from high-quality sources. This helps promote a healthy lifestyle while allowing your dog to grow strong bones and a healthy skin and coat.

Answer – As with a taste of the wild, this food mix is 100% free from grain and dairy products that removes the chances of reactions to the main allergies for dogs.
Question – I ordered Blue Buffalo Wilderness but the packaging is different, what gives?

Quick And Easy Hypoallergenic Homemade Dog Food
What To Look For In A Hypoallergenic Dog Food
If you decided to look for your own products rather than try one of the ones we have recommended above then here are a few points that you should consider.
As we have previously touched on in the article, the gluten in most grains is what dogs usually have allergies to. Choosing a grain free dog food will remove this risk completely. All of the products that we have recommended above are 100% grain free removing and potential gluten intolerance issues.
That said, rice is gluten-free and used as a filler ingredient in some low and mid ranged dog foods as a carbohydrate source. Although the gluten risk is removed, a very small number of dogs can be allergic to rice so we always recommend that you look for grain free foods.
Some dog food companies will add various dairy products to their food such as whey protein in an attempt to cut costs while still providing your dog with protein content. The lactose in these products can cause an allergic reaction in your dog as well as excessive wind. All of the products that we recommend above are 100% dairy free and we always recommend that you avoid any products that list dairy in their ingredients.
“Meat” Listed As An Ingredient
Some budget dog foods will list “meat” as their ingredient. We always recommend that you avoid any product that does this. This meat is usually made up of low-quality cuts of meat that are usually of questionable origins. It can contain other impurities and usually has random fillers in it too.
A high-quality dog food like the ones listed above will always list their meat ingredients with the name of the animal the meat is from. For example, “Chicken Meat” will be listed as the ingredient rather than just “Meat”.
Soy is actually a bean, not a grain. It is sometimes used in dog foods as a cheap, low-cost filler ingredient but dogs can often have allergies to it. If your dog has any food sensitivities then there is a good chance soy will be one of them, even if it only results in excess gas.
Egg Yolk is another product that is often included in budget dog foods in an attempt to reduce costs. Although the majority of dogs will be able to consume egg yolk without issue a small number can have allergies to it.
Avoid Anything To Do With China
Adding on to the “meat” ingredient we touched on earlier, there are a number of issues with dog food from China that can be a nightmare if your dog has allergies. Not only was there one of the biggest pet food recalls ever in 2007 due to contaminated dog foods from China, but things haven’t managed to get much better since.
There are no strict laws regarding pet food in China, a small number of general guidelines have been added but they offer little to no assurance when compared to a western dog food brand. At the time of writing, there is no legal recourse for any wrongdoing when it comes to pet food either although a few measures are being discussed.
In 2012, batches of dog food from China were tested against what their ingredients list stated were in the food opposed to what was actually in the food. Ingredients such as beef were found to be non-existent even though the food was listed as beef flavored with beef on its ingredients list.
In 2014, Chinese dog food was totally pulled from the US market due to mislabeling of product, contaminated ingredients, and other issues. Unfortunately, this lead to a number of pet deaths and the US banned the products. Due to a legal loophole some of the foods have managed to find their way back to the US market so always read the lable!
